An Abilene Fire Department engine was hit by a tractor-trailer Monday morning as crews were working the scene of a crash on Interstate 20
The incident occurred at 11 a.m. at mile marker 286 as crews were responding to a single-vehicle crash.
The fire engine was parked on the interstate to block traffic as crews treated patients when a tractor-trailer attempted to change lanes at the last minute and hit the city vehicle, said J. Sanders, AFD spokesman, in a statement. Sanders said the tractortrailer clipped the back end and right side of the fire engine with its trailer. No injuries were reported
Three weeks ago, the city of Abilene approved the purchase of a new fire engine with a price tag of $529,178. It will replace a model bought 15 years ago that was totaled in an accident last year.
